Kidney death

this week we went to life ed caravan for lessons about how our body systems keep us alive and healthy. Them we did a scientific language experiment about kidneys and hearts. We had to observe the real body parts and we had to cut them up. Then we got to choose any kind of DLO that we wanted to create to share our memories.

Holes writing

Kia Ora
This week we have been learning how to write a description of a character from the book Holes, by Louis Sachar.

Holes

The warden has red, stringy nails that are very pointy. She has blue eyes her eyes are like almonds. Her skin was pale and spotted with small peachy freckles. Her deep set eyes were like green footballs and they have a nasty glint inside them. The warden is bossy and very demanding. She is a female.

Popcorn writing

Kia Ora,
The last few weeks we have been focusing on using our senses when writing. We did a language experience with popcorn. We watched it cook and observed the popcorn with each of our 5 senses - taste, smell, touch, see and hear. After our observations we did some writing about it.
Here is my descriptive writing.

Black Horror

Kia ora

This week we have been learning how to describe a place better by using ideas from our senses. We had to choose a picture and then describe it.

Black Horror

The black trees are like dark, twisty shadows.
The path smells like a humongous dead possum.
The grass felt as slimy as spit.
I was shivering when the coldness was crawling up my back.
The  birds were whispering to me in the never ending fog.

Learning how to write reports about a scientific experiment.

Kia ora.
We are having a science fair this term so we needed to learn how to write a report about a scientific experiment. Our teachers chopped a piece of scientific writing into bits and we had to sort them out into the right order. We had to match the structure clues with the correct sentences and paragraphs. It was tricky. When we were finished we used the report to carry out a floating and sinking experiment using Blutack. The Blutack wouldn’t float unless we squeezed  it into the shape of a boat. It was fun. Here is a picture.
